Rick is the Regional Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond serving the Carolinas and is responsible for analyzing regional economic conditions and developments, as well as educating the region's diverse constituents on the role of the Federal Reserve and its District Banks. The title of Rick's presentation will be "Assessing the Economic Outlook: Are We Still in Recovery?" 2010 Annual Golf Tournament
It's that time again! The 2010 Annual Golf Tournament "Gamble on the Green" is planned for September 9, 2010, at Tega Cay Golf Club. Our Rain Date is September 30, 2010.

The proceeds of this tournament supports the Arrowood Association Scholarship Program especially the "Frankie Graves Scholarship."

The Arrowood Golf Tournament was a fantastic success!

The Arrowood Business Association's annual golf tournament was held September, 24th. This year was a fantastic success, raising over $10,000 for the Frankie Graves Scholarship Fund. Thank you to all of our sponsors and players for making this event the most successful to date. Plans are already being made to make next year's event bigger and better so be on the look out for early registration specials.

Charlotte Knights 2008 Arrowood Business Association Outing August 21, 2008

Vulcan Materials Company Funds Sterling Elementary Math & Science Summer Camp
August 26, 2007:
Sterling Elementary School proudly announces receipt of a $15,000 contribution from Vulcan Materials Company to fully fund a six week Math & Science Summer Camp for 42 elementary school students.

Ruth Hood, family advocate for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools under the leadership of Sterling Principal Selestine Crowder organized the two- three week summer camps that enhances math and science skills utilizing creative and fun hands-on projects. Each week, the students will take a field trip to visit sites where they can see how math and science is used in the workforce and community. They plan enrich the camp with visits to such places as Vulcan's Pineville Quarry, Historic Reed Gold Mine, Duke Energy Exploirum, the Art Institute's Culinary Department, as well as an onsite forensic lab and a McMullen Creek Environmental Study.

2007-2008 Arrowood Association Frankie Graves Technical Scholarships
August 4, 2007:
 

This year the Arrowood Business Association is proud to present TWO recipients of the Frankie Graves (center of picture) Technical Scholarship, Jamie Halsey and Robert Gathings.
  
Jamie (right) and Robert (left) are both recent graduates of the Olympic Community of Schools, Jamie from the BioTechnology, Health and Public Administration School with a 3.1 average and Robert from the Math, Engineering, Technology and Science School with a 3.5 average.
  
Jamie's career and technical education centered around the Health Sciences and Robert's was in the Engineering Technologies area.
 
Both of the these young people will be attending CPCC in the Fall, each has decided to pursue a four year degree after completing the first two years at CPCC.  Jamie will major in Education and Robert in Engineering.
 
Both of these recipients are residents of the Arrowood Community, volunteer through their church - both locally and out of state, and have jobs (part-time during school).
 
Both Jamie and Robert are very pleased to be here today and wish to thank the Arrowood Association's members for their support.

May 17, 2007:
The Job Shadowing Program of the Arrowood Business Association was on April 25, 2007. Opportunities to experience "real work" was provided by eight of the Arrowood members. Thank you from the Education Committee and the Olympic Community of Schools for the support from these businesses:

The Arrowood Association Frankie Graves Scholarships will be awarded at the Senior Honors and Awards Program at Olympic on Thursday, May 17, 2007. Ward Norris, President, will make the presentations for the Association. This year we have two recipients, Robert Gathings and Jamie Halsey. They will be introduced to the general membership during the June meeting.

The Education Committee would also like to recognize another member of the Arrowood Association - FritoLay Corp.
FritoLay has become a major supporter of the Olympic students. They are involved in projects in the Global Studies and International Business schools.

The TimeWarner Star Teacher/Student Award was presented to Catherine St. Onge who was nominated by her student Ranaye Rutherford. Ms. St. Onge is a teacher in the METS (Math, Engineering, Technology and Science) School at the Olympic Community of Schools. "She is the reason I want to become a teacher. She has impacted me and many other students so much." Congratulations to Ms. St. Onge and to Ranaye - quite an honor.

A Smart Walkers Guide to Personal Safety
To protect yourself, use common sense and always walk defensively.

1. Walk with someone - a family member, neighbor or friend.
2. Walk purposefully with your head held up high.
3. Tell someone where you will walk and when you expect to return.
4. Walk during daylight hours if possible.
5. If walking at night wear reflective clothing.
6. Avoid isolated paths and dangerous roadways.
7. Carry personal identification.
8. Trust your intuition. Take action if someone is following you. Cross the street, change direction or walk up to a store or up to a residence.
9. If you are in an unfamiliar city ask a trustworthy local resident to recommend a safe walking route.
10. Vary your route from day to day.
11. Drive an unfamiliar route before walking it. Pay attention to road conditions, traffic and other hazards.
12. Use extra caution when crossing intersections.
